Vietnamese Ambassador to Ukraine attended celebration of 224th Anniversary of Odessa City
On 2nd September 2018, at the invitation of Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Anh Tuan joined the MFA delegation to celebrate the 224th anniversary of Odessa City (2/9/1794 – 2/9/2018).
The celebration had many highlights. Most notable was a solemn flag hoisting ceremony at 10 A.M. in Dumska Square in the presence of Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and representatives of various ministries, Ambassadors and representatives of 43 countries, Head of the Odesa Regional Administration Maksym Stepanov, Odessa City Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov – the honorable citizen of Odessa city, many regional and municipal officials, and thousands of local people. Later in the day, the honorable guests and hosts joined more than 100,000 local people in a Gala with a splendid show of firework at 7 P.M. at the famous Potemkin Stairs Square.
Odessa City is the third largest city in Ukraine, after Kiev and Kharkiv, and is located in the south of Ukraine. Despite its relatively young age of 224 years, Odessa boasts of a heroic history and multi-ethnic culture. This seaport city is a world tourist attraction in the shore of the Black Sea. Being the home of about 3 thousand Vietnamese, Odessa City is also the symbol of Viet Nam – Ukraine Friendship.
Ambassador Nguyen Anh Tuan congratulated Head of the Odesa Regional Administration Maksym Stepanov and Odessa City Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov and mentioned the contributions of the Vietnamese community to the city. He emphasized the fact that the Vietnamese community considers Odessa as their second home and urged the two leaders to assist them. For their part, both leaders acknowledged the important role of the Vietnamese community in Odessa and pledged to make more favorable conditions for the community in both their work and life.
Realizing that the 2nd of September is indeed the National Day of Vietnam, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps in Ukraine and Odessa leaders all congratulated Ambassador Nguyen Anh Tuan. The Vietnamese Embassy in Kiev will organize a reception to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the National Day on the 6th of September.
