On July 9, 2020, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr Dmytro Kuleba hold a meeting with Ambassadors of Viet Nam Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, the Republic of Indonesia Dr. Yuddy Chrisnandi and Malaysia Mr. Dato Raja Reza Raja Zaib Shah to Ukraine.

In course of the meeting, the counterparts discussed the prospects of enhancing interaction between Ukraine and ASEAN in political and economic spheres, particularly Ukraine's aspiration to accede to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia and gaining the observer status in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

«Our goal is to increase trade turnover with ASEAN countries up to 5 billion USD. This is an ambitious goal. We have a strong intention to promote trade and increase investments, and therefore we are able to give the significant impetus to economic cooperation through implementation the joint beneficial projects» - the Minister emphasized. 

The Minister called upon the partners of ASEAN Member States to consider the possibility to conclude the Memorandum on collaboration between the Exporters and Investors Council under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council. Such an approach would promote the establishment of direct ties between the concerned companies, the use of the export potential of our country and the diversification of existing production facilities.

Dmytro Kuleba also officially proposed to establish in Kyiv the ASEAN Committee composed of the ASEAN Member States ambassadors accredited in Ukraine as a basis for establishing contacts between representatives of political and business circles.

During the meeting, the sides also reaffirmed their interest in concluding bilateral agreements on preferential trade, which would facilitate in increasing the volume of trade between Ukraine and the ASEAN Member States up to 5 bln. USD as well as the implementation of the mutually beneficial investment projects.

The interlocutors paid special attention to possibilities of founding the ASEAN Center in one of the Ukrainian universities which would give an opportunity for intensification of contacts between researchers and scientists as well as further enhancing humanitarian and people-to-people contacts.

Moreover, the sides discussed the topics of bilateral agenda: the exchange of visits at the highest and high levels, inter-parliamentary collaboration, interaction in the framework of international organizations, liberalization of the visa regime, as well as the implementation of joint cultural projects and promoting of sports diplomacy.
